Session 20 : Heros of Barovia

Some say Night hags are creatures of pure evil. Some say they are hard to kill and failure will mean they’ll haunt you forever. Some say it is insane to take on three night hags just because they took your windmill.

Destiny says, “Let’s get back our windmill!”

“It’s not even our windmill.” Says Serenity

“But we’ve got the deed, so that makes it ours, doesn’t it?”

“Who cares about the windmill, let’s just burn the windmill down and the hags along with it!” Ireena said with a hint of impatience.

“Oh, that’s a nice idea. Let’s do that… we burn the windmill and kill the hags inside!” Destiny said, clapping her hands in joy.

“Errr… that doesn’t sound like a good plan” Watch warned, “you do know that Night hags carries with them a heartstone and just by touching it they become ethereal, right?”

Destiny looks blankly at Watch.

“Mistress, it means you can set all the fire you want, but they can just vanish and appear somewhere else. Probably behind you with a knife through your heart.”

“Oh that stone thingy, Serenity has a plan for that. She said that if we go in late tonight , then the Hags are probably sleeping. So you can sneak…”

“What, ME? So your plan to kill the Hags is ‘I’ go kill the hags? Aren’t YOU guys the ones who are supposed to be heros?”

“Oh, heros… you are right, if we kill these hags, we really will be heros, weren’t we?” Destiny relished the thought, “Anyway, don’t worry, while you go inside and steal the heartstones from them, we’ll be outside ready to jump in should things go wrong. You’ll be perfectly safe.”

“That’s what you said last time, and look where that got me! So I do the dangerous work while all you guys do is set the place on fire?”

“Oh no silly, it’ll be your job to set the fire too, since it’s much easier to do that from inside. But make sure you set the fire first before you try to steal the heartstone, just in case the hags catches you stealing, then at least the place is still on fire.”

“Oh ok, so ‘I’ sneak into the windmill, ‘I’ set the place on fire and ‘I’ steal the heartstones. Anything else, my dear mistress?”

“Actually, yes, before you do any of that, do a quick search around the windmill to make sure there’s no more children locked away. We wouldn’t want to harm them now, would we? And while you are at it, see if you can find some treasure as well, seems we need lots of money to buy stuff here. It’s a good plan, right? Serenity has such good plans, we will become Heros of Barovia for sure!”

“Yes, a great plan. ‘I’ do EVERYTHING, while you all do NOTHING!” Watch said in a huff.

“Oh silly, not NOTHING, we came up with the plan, remember?”

Bella Sunbane and Offalia Wormwiggle wakes to a smoke filled room. Fire! They try without luck to put out the fire. It seems every time they put one bit out, another fire magically starts somewhere else. This is hopeless!

Time to go. Their Heartstones are gone!

They have no choice but to run through the fire and out of the door. This fire is no accident, someone is trying to kill them. If they die tonight, Morgatha will avenge them!

Outside the burning windmill stands Serenity, Hoskgak, Ireena and Destiny, posed and ready to strike.

Some say, that occupants of the windmills died that night, but no bodies were ever found, only the ashes within the windmill.

But a body was eventually found on side of the road between the village of Barovia and the burn windmill. Beside the decaying body was tree trunk inscribed in large writing:

“Here the evil Morgatha perished at the hands of the Heroes of Barovia”.
