Walk the line
Her mind raced with questions about the cost of her actions on her soul. Did the end justify the means? Was she any better than Rictavio, who had once preached the same philosophy? What about compassion, integrity, and love? Had she lost sight of these values in her pursuit of justice?
In a moment of despair, she thought back to her Tabaxi family in the mountains. She longed for the warmth and comfort of their love, but the memories only served to deepen her sense of guilt and isolation.
As she lay there, a figure appeared at her cell door. At first, she thought it was her mother, but as the figure drew closer the image of her wholesome, nurturing mother faded away, replaced by the curious and somehow frightening figure of her friend, Destiny.
Serenity struggled to recognize the person before her. Had Destiny been lost to the darkness, just like her? She was grateful for the reunion with her friends, but the return of Silenzo, who they had thought gone forever, only served to deepen her doubts and fears.
As they searched the catacombs for their equipment, battling giant wolf spiders, hell hounds, and ghosts, Serenity found her Bloodspear. The familiar weight in her hand provided some comfort, but the questions and doubts continued to gnaw at her.
When the vampire spawn Volenta arrived with Ireena, the group sprang into action. Serenity stunned Ireena and pushed her into a safe room, unable to bear the thought of her being used as a pawn in their battle.
As they fought Volenta, Serenity struggled to keep her emotions in check. Her heart ached with the knowledge that this battle might push her further toward the darkness. She eventually stunned Volenta and began to relentlessly attack her until Hoskgak stepped between them and used his sword of sunlight to cut Volenta in two. The relief she felt at her nemesis's death was overwhelming, but it was overshadowed by the weight of her own doubts and fears.
Serenity couldn't help but wonder if she had lost something irreplaceable in her quest for justice. But despite her doubts and fears, she knew that she had to keep fighting. She would never stop striving for a better world, no matter how fine the line between good and evil might be.
Serenity picked up Volenta's skull mask from the floor and used to to cover her own face. She would walk the line.
